An AI website called Midjourney recently utilized the Turin Shroud to generate what they claim as the most precise depiction of Jesus Christ to date. The Midjourney image portrays Jesus as a man with long hair and a beard.
The Turin Shroud is a piece of linen fabric that bears the front and back image of a man. According to the Roman Catholic Church, this cloth was used to wrap Jesus' body following his crucifixion.
Back in 1898, an Italian lawyer and photographer named Secondo Pia discovered that the image of Jesus on the Turin Shroud appeared more distinct in black and white photography compared to sepia tones.
According to reports, Pope John Paul II referred to the Shroud as a "distinguished relic" and "a mirror of the Gospel" in 1998.
His successor, Pope Benedict XVI, described it as an "icon written with the blood of a whipped man, crowned with thorns, crucified, and pierced on his right side."
In 2013, Pope Francis mentioned the Shroud as an "icon of a man scourged and crucified."
According to sources such as National Geographic's article titled "Why Shroud of Turin's Secrets Continue to Elude Science," the shroud has become the subject of extensive scientific study and research.
In fact, it holds the distinction of being the most thoroughly examined artifact in recorded history.
This unparalleled level of scrutiny has led to the establishment of a dedicated field of study called Sindonology, derived from the Greek word "sindon," mentioned in the Gospel of Mark as the term used to describe the cloth used to wrap the body of Jesus during burial.
