TAPE, matagumpay na na-renew ang ‘Eat Bulaga’ trademark for 10 years

Nagtagumpay ang Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE) na ma-renew ang trademark registration ng pangalang "Eat Bulaga," ang kanilang noontime show, ng another 10 years sa gitna ng ongoing legal dispute with Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, at Jeny Ferre.

Inisyu ng Bureau of Trademarks na under ng Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines ang Certificate of Renewal of Registration para sa "Eat Bulaga" trademarks and logos.

Makikita sa registration ang petsa ng registration ay June 14, 2023 at na-renew noong June 14, 2023. Ang registration ay magtatagal ng 10 years at mag-eexpire sa June 14, 2033.

Ang TAPE ang prior registrant ng "Eat Bulaga," na nakapag-file noong 2011 at narehistro ang trademark noong June 14, 2013.

Kinumpirma ni TAPE Lawyer Maggie Abraham-Garduque na nag-isyu nga ang IPOPHL ng certificate of renewal of registration para sa "Eat Bulaga" kahit may nakabinbing na petisyon ang TVJ, dating mga host ng "Eat Bulaga," para kanselahin ang naturang trademark nito lang June 2 ngayong taon.

Iniwan ng TVJ ang programang "Eat Bulaga" at TAPE Inc. noong May 31 at nagsimulang mag-host ng bagong show na "E.A.T." sa TV5 noong July 1.

Sinabi ni Atty. Abraham-Garduque na natanggap ng TAPE ang certificate of renewal noong August 4.

"Yes, we received the certificate of renewal yesterday. Since it has a term of 10 years so TAPE Inc. owns the trademark of 'Eat Bulaga!' until 2033," aniya.

Napaso ang "Eat Bulaga" trademark noong June 14 pero na-renew agad ng TAPE ang kanilang registration.

"Marami kasi ang nagsasabi na since nag-expire ang registration ng TAPE sa 'Eat Bulaga' trademark, free for all na ito. This is not true. TAPE Inc. renewed its registration and we are happy na na-issue na ang certificate of renewal which maeks TAPE Inc. the continuous owner of trademark 'Eat Bulaga' until 2033," dagdag pa ng abogado ng TAPE Inc.

Sabi pa n'ya, "Importante ito kasi kung baga sa lupa ang certificate registration and in this case certificate of renewal of TAPE Inc ay ang titulo n'ya to prove its ownership over the trademark 'Eat Bulaga.'"

"From the start, IPO recognized TAPE Inc. as the prior registrant of 'Eat Bulaga' trademark. This renewal is a testament that TAPE was and remains the registered owner of the trademark 'Eat Bulaga,'" anang abogada.

Bago naghain ng petition for cancellation, nagsumite ang TVJ ng trademark application para sa "Eat Bulaga" noong February 27, 2023. Nag-file naman si De Leon ng hiwalay na trademark application para sa "Eat Bulaga" noong March 22, 2023.

Sa isang liham na ipinadala sa IPOPHL nitong Abril matapos mag-file si De Leon ng application para sa "Eat Bulaga" trademark, sinabi ni TAPE CEO and president Romeo Jalosjos Jr. na "since 1991, the name "EAT BULAGA" has already been registered as a Trademark and an intellectual property of our company, Television and Production Exponents Inc."
